The Lowdown
The Big Jarrah at Pemberton celebrates the magnificent jarrah forests that once covered much of Western Australia's southwest. These ancient trees can live for hundreds of years, growing up to 40 meters tall with dense, termite-resistant timber that was highly prized by early loggers. The Pemberton region became famous for its fire lookout trees - karri trees with climbing pegs hammered into their trunks. The Big Jarrah honors the forest giants that define this region and the ongoing balance between timber industry heritage and forest conservation.
