The Big Koala Family

The Big Koala Family was created by Natureworks, renowned Australian specialists in lifelike fibreglass animal sculptures. Originally commissioned for Coffs Harbour Zoo, these three koala sculptures became beloved attractions at that venue. When Coffs Harbour Zoo closed, the decision was made to relocate the koala family to Billabong Zoo in Port Macquarie in 2003. This proved to be a perfect match, as Port Macquarie is famous for its thriving koala population and conservation efforts. The region's Koala Hospital, established in 1973, is the world's first hospital dedicated solely to the care of koalas and draws visitors from around the globe. The Big Koala Family now serves as an iconic photo opportunity alongside the zoo's real koalas and other Australian native animals.
