The Big Koala Family is an endearing trio of oversized koala sculptures that now call Billabong Zoo in Port Macquarie home. Created by fibreglass specialists Natureworks, these charming sculptures were originally commissioned for Coffs Harbour Zoo. When that zoo closed its doors, the koala family was relocated to Billabong Zoo in 2003, where they found a new home among real koalas and other Australian wildlife. The sculptures depict a family group of koalas in lifelike poses, celebrating Australia's most beloved marsupial. Port Macquarie is particularly fitting as the new home for these Big Things, as the region is renowned for its significant wild koala population and is home to the famous Koala Hospital that has been rehabilitating injured and sick koalas since 1973.
