The Lowdown
The Big Ned Kelly at Glenrowan towers over the site of Australia's most famous bushranger's last stand. This enormous statue depicts Kelly in his iconic homemade armor - the distinctive helmet and body plate that have become symbols of Australian rebellion and resourcefulness. On June 28, 1880, Ned Kelly made his final stand at Glenrowan's Glenrowan Inn, wearing armor made from plough mouldboards. The siege ended Kelly's reign and led to his hanging in Melbourne, but his legend only grew. Today, the Big Ned Kelly welcomes visitors to explore the history of Australia's most notorious outlaw at the place where it all came to an end.
