The Big Prawn in Exmouth celebrates Western Australia's thriving prawn fishing industry and the town's deep connection to the sea. Situated on the Ningaloo Coast, Exmouth is famous for its pristine marine environment, including the spectacular Ningaloo Reef - Australia's largest fringing coral reef. Prawns and other seafood have long been important to both the local fishing industry and the region's restaurants. The Big Prawn welcomes visitors to this remote but spectacular corner of Australia, where the reef meets the outback and marine adventures await around every corner.

History
The Big Prawn was installed in Exmouth to celebrate the town's connection to the fishing industry that has supported the community since its establishment. Exmouth was originally developed in 1967 as a support town for the nearby Harold E. Holt Naval Communication Station. As the town grew, its proximity to the abundant waters of Ningaloo Reef and the Gulf of Exmouth made fishing an important industry. Today, Exmouth is better known as a tourism hub for visitors wanting to swim with whale sharks, explore Ningaloo Reef, and enjoy the unspoilt beaches of Cape Range National Park.
