The Big Rosella brings a splash of colour to Cobram, a Murray River town on the Victoria-New South Wales border. This vibrant sculpture celebrates the crimson rosella, one of Australia's most beautiful native parrots that fills the riverine forests and farmlands of the Murray region with brilliant colour and cheerful calls. Cobram sits in the heart of Victoria's food bowl, surrounded by irrigated orchards, farms, and the magnificent Murray River gum forests where rosellas thrive. The Big Rosella represents the wildlife that shares this productive landscape with the farming communities who have called the Murray home for generations.

History
Cobram has been a Murray River crossing point since Indigenous Australians first settled the region thousands of years ago. European settlement began in the 1840s with pastoral runs, and the town developed as irrigation transformed the district into one of Australia's most productive farming regions. The Murray River red gums and farmland orchards provide perfect habitat for rosellas, which are commonly seen throughout the region. The Big Rosella celebrates these colourful birds that have become a symbol of the Australian bush, brightening gardens, orchards, and river forests with their brilliant plumage.
