History
The Adelaide River jumping crocodile cruises began in the 1980s, when operators discovered that saltwater crocodiles would leap from the water to grab food held above the surface. The behaviour - which crocodiles use to catch birds and bats in the wild - became a tourist sensation. The cruises now operate daily, with massive crocodiles (some over 5 metres long) launching themselves almost completely out of the water. The Giant Jumping Crocodile sculpture was erected to mark this unique Top End attraction and capture the explosive power of these prehistoric predators.
